About Us
Originally chartered on April 16, 1964 “to promote and assist the Reidland
High School
Band in any and all of its endeavors”, the Band Boosters continue to play an
integral
part in funding and promoting instrumental music education at Reidland. Forty
five
years has seen a decline in the funding of music education as school budgets
become
tighter and tighter. A strong Booster organization is even more important today.
All parents of band students are encouraged to participate in the Booster
organization.
The success of the band depends in part on the strength of the Boosters. Parents
who
are not able to be active participants in the Boosters are still encouraged to
attend all of
your child’s performances. At marching competitions a strong showing among
Reidland parents will put a spring in your child’s step that the judges will
notice.
The Booster Club pays for music, travel to marching competitions, instruments,
student
awards and uniforms. The Boosters also help to defray the cost of band camp and
honor bands and other activities during concert season. This necessary support
comes
at a cost, which is why fund raising is critical.
The Reidland Band Boosters is made up entirely of volunteers. There are many
opportunities for you to support your child through participation in Booster
activities.
Volunteers are needed for concessions at home football games, bingo nights, fund
raising meals, chaperones, pit crew and much more. If we didn’t ask for your
help on a project, don’t be afraid to ask us. There is always room for one more.
If the sounds coming from your child’s room during practice sessions do not
motivate
you to support music education, consider this: Students of the arts continue to
outperform their non-arts peers on the SAT, according to reports by the College
Entrance Examination Board. In 2006, SAT takers with coursework/experience in
music performance scored 57 points higher on the verbal portion of the test and
43
points higher on the math portion than students with no coursework or experience
in the
arts.
The Student Descriptive Questionnaire, a self-reported component of the SAT that
gathers information about students’
academic preparation, gathered data for these reports. Source: The College
